About us
Vink Chemicals GmbH & Co. KG is a family-owned, medium-sized company based in Kakenstorf, Lower Saxony (approx. 40 km south of Hamburg). Our 130+ employees are specialists in technical preservation and chemical additives and are responsible for production facilities, sales, raw material purchasing as well as product development and quality control in our own laboratories worldwide. We develop products and services for industrial applications that are used worldwide. Their use prevents the microbiological degradation of many well-known everyday products. This saves resources and extends shelf life. Our product lines are Technical Biocides, Oilfield & Fuel Treatment, Specialty Chemicals, System Cleaning as well as a product range of Consumer Chemicals. The history of Vink Chemicals began back in 1980, when the trading company Vink + Co. started trading chemicals, sourcing and distributing active ingredients and formulations. In 2008, the experienced team of experts formulated the first quantities of chemical additives, first in toll manufacturing, then in in-house production, in order to directly serve special customer requirements. The first proprietary product formulations were also developed to target open market niches. In 2011, the VINK CHEMICALS GmbH & Co. KG was founded, which launched operations at its production facility in Kakenstorf the following year. A wide variety of batch sizes can be produced and filled there according to customer specifications. In 2019, production capacities were nearly doubled through the acquisition of another production site in Memmingen (Bavaria) in southern Germany.

Fracking preparation and completion can take months. When formulated into a fracking fluid, biocides need to be effective against a range of microbes and for an extended period. This reduces the need for costly re-applications and further interventions, which generally occur with misapplied biocides. On top of this, there is also the demand to be compatible with other biocides (oxidising types) that may have been used earlier in the operation. #oilfield #oilandgas #oilandgasindustry #fracking #biocides

Downhole, biocides are exposed to temperatures approaching 200 °C: high pressure, high salinities, and a pH range from 5–8 over a period over weeks and months. Biocides need to demonstrate that they can tolerate long-term heat exposure without significant loss of biocidal activity. Traditional biocides are also affected by pH variability and modern slickwater-frac-fluids require pH 6.5 to perform. This rigid pH sensitivity can hamper some biocides with orders of magnitude in performance observed with higher pH especially on large sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) colonies. Selection of a biocide with specific chemical attributes that can avoid these issues is therefore key.
